Cole Ragans to Undergo Elbow Surgery Wednesday

Kansas City Royals left-hander Cole Ragans undergoes elbow surgery this Wednesday to address ongoing issues. Manager Matt Quatraro confirmed the medical team will determine the full extent of the damage once they begin the procedure. The surgery follows a diagnosis of valgus extension overload that sidelined the pitcher earlier this spring.

Ragans originally entered the injured list on May 8 after experiencing a left elbow impingement. He exited his May 6 start against the Cleveland Guardians after only three innings. After being placed on the 60-day injured list in June, the team decided surgery was the necessary next step for his recovery.

This procedure adds more medical complications to a career already marked by injury. The former first-round pick previously underwent Tommy John surgery twice while playing for the Texas Rangers. He also dealt with groin and rotator cuff strains last season. Ragans currently holds a 4.84 ERA for the Royals.
