Brewers Reliever Fitzpatrick Seeks Second Opinion on Elbow Injury

Brian Fitzpatrick is getting a second opinion on his elbow injury after the Brewers diagnosed him with a partial proximal sprain of the UCL in his throwing arm. The left-handed reliever hurt himself during a warmup pitch Friday night in Colorado, just hours after getting called up from Triple-A Nashville.

Fitzpatrick had thrown a scoreless sixth inning against the Rockies before returning for the seventh. During his warmup throws, he felt the injury that could sideline him for an extended period. Milwaukee provided the update before Tuesday's game against Oakland in Las Vegas.

In five appearances with Milwaukee, Fitzpatrick posted a 1.35 ERA without allowing an earned run until this injury. At Nashville, he was even better - 3-1 record with a 1.13 ERA and one save across 15 games. The 26-year-old showed promise in his brief MLB stint.

This injury hits the Brewers' bullpen depth at a critical juncture in the season. Losing a reliable left-handed option could force Milwaukee to explore trade options or promote additional relievers from their minor league system.
