Brewers demote Gasser after Dodgers loss, recall Rodriguez

Milwaukee sent left‑hander Robert Gasser back to the minors on Sunday, swapping him for right‑hander Carlos Rodriguez. Gasser, 26, posted a 6.48 ERA over two starts, surrendering seven strikeouts and six walks in 8 1/3 innings. The move follows a 5‑4 loss to the Dodgers in which his early three‑run lead evaporated, leaving his rotation spot in doubt.

In the Dodgers game, Gasser held Los Angeles scoreless through three innings before a fourth‑inning surge produced four runs, including a three‑run homer by Teoscar Hernández that broke the tie. Brewers manager Pat Murphy blamed possible pitch‑tipping, pointing to Dodgers second‑baseman Andy Pages’ gestures. Murphy warned that sign‑stealing tactics have become a “science” across the league. Murphy said video review might confirm the suspicion.

Rodriguez, recalled from Triple‑A Nashville, posted a 2.25 ERA in two relief outings with Milwaukee earlier this season, though his Nashville numbers were rough at 8.03. The roster shuffle gives Milwaukee a more reliable bullpen arm while Gasser returns to Nashville to refine his mechanics. The Brewers hope the change stabilizes their rotation amid a tight AL Central race.
