Brent Rooker was placed on the 10‑day injured list after an oblique strain, snapping a 213‑game streak that had stretched since 2024. The Athletics recalled Zack Gelof from Triple‑A Las Vegas to fill the vacancy. The move came after Rooker fouled off a changeup in the first inning of a 1‑0 win over the Yankees.

Manager Mark Kotsay offered no timeline for Rook’s return, noting the outfielder’s pride in playing every day. Rooker finished the game feeling tight and sore, and will undergo imaging to assess the severity. He has hit .146 with two homers and seven of eight RBIs in his last three games through the season in 2026.

Rooker’s injury comes on the heels of a solid 2025 campaign, when he batted .262, hit 30 homers, and drove in 89 runs while playing every game and earning an All‑Star nod. His five‑year, $60 million contract signed in January 2025 could grow to $92 million over six seasons, keeping him for the roster through into 2029.

Gelof’s call gives the A’s a chance to shuffle the lineup while Rooker recovers. With his long streak snapped, the team faces a brief loss of power and defensive consistency at right field and in the designated‑hitter spot. The injury also underscores the importance of depth as the season’s grind intensifies for the team ahead.
