The Oakland Athletics dismissed pitching coach Scott Emerson on Monday, citing a need for change amid a painful 9-game losing streak that has pushed the club to the bottom of the AL West.

Bullpen coach Dan Hubbs will step in as the interim pitching coach for the remainder of the season. The decision comes after a season‑long struggle, with the A’s’s 5.21 ERA ranking next to last in the majors, trailing only Colorado’s 5.44.

Emerson, who joined the organization in 2014 as a bullpen coach and was promoted to pitching coach in 2017, has been unable to reverse the team’s fortunes. The Athletics currently sit at 41-55, fourth in the AL West and eight games behind the Texas Rangers.

The move signals a willingness to shake up the coaching staff in hopes of breaking the losing streak before the All‑Star break, as the club seeks a competitive turnaround in a tough division.
