U.S. Figure Skating has decided not to appeal the controversial scoring by French judge Jezabel Dabouis that cost Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates the ice dance gold medal at the Winter Olympics. The International Skating Union defended the judging, stating it has "full confidence" in the scores despite the significant point discrepancy.

Dabouis favored French skaters Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron by nearly eight points in the free dance, a margin so large that removing her score would have given Chock and Bates the gold. The U.S. had 24 hours to file an appeal but chose not to, with USFS CEO Matt Farrell saying the organization would have "thoughtful and intentional discussions" about supporting the athletes Chock expressed frustration with the scoring confusion, noting it "does a disservice to our sport" and makes it difficult for fans to understand results. Bates maintained their performance felt like a winning skate, saying they would "hold on to" that Olympic moment despite the outcome. The decision not to appeal effectively closes the controversy, though questions about scoring transparency in figure skating remain.
