The French ice dance team of Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron won Olympic gold at the 2026 Winter Games, narrowly defeating American favorites Madison Chock and Evan Bates by 1.43 points. The victory has sparked significant controversy due to perceived judging inconsistencies and questionable scores from certain judges, particularly the French judge who scored the Americans notably lower than her colleagues.

Chock and Bates, three-time reigning world champions, delivered what they called their "gold medal performance" with season-best scores in both segments. However, the French duo's victory has been questioned after visible errors in their twizzle sequences went largely unpunished. The French judge, Jezabel Dabouis, gave Chock and Bates their lowest score by more than five points while scoring Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron nearly three points higher than the panel average. Similar scoring patterns emerged at the Grand Prix Finals in December.

While Chock and Bates have remained gracious about the outcome, calling it "life and sport," others have been more outspoken. Fellow competitors like Marco Fabbri and Emilea Zingas have publicly stated the Americans deserved gold. A Change.org petition calling for an ISU investigation has garnered over 15,000 signatures. The International Skating Union has defended the scoring, stating they have "full confidence in the scores given" and citing mechanisms to mitigate judge variations.
