The USGA has announced that winners of the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Junior Amateur will receive the Tiger Woods Medal and Tiger Woods Trophy respectively. The announcement came during the USGA's annual meeting in New York last week, marking a significant honor for Woods who has deep ties to these championships.

Woods' connection to USGA events runs deep - he won the U.S. Open by a record 15 shots and claimed three consecutive victories in both the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Amateur. His nine USGA titles tie him with Bobby Jones for the all-time record. The U.S. Amateur trophy was already named for Theodore Havemeyer, the first USGA president.

Other USGA championships also bear the names of golf legends. The U.S. Open winner receives the Jack Nicklaus Medal, while the U.S. Women's Open champion gets the Mickey Wright Medal. The USGA recently announced the JoAnne Carner Medal for the U.S. Women's Amateur champion. Carner, known then as JoAnne Gunderson, won the Women's Amateur four times.
