A Slovak fugitive wanted by Italian authorities for a series of 2010 thefts was arrested at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics after attempting to watch his country's hockey team play. The 44-year-old man, whose identity remains undisclosed, had been on the run for 16 years before checking into a Milan campsite.

Italian military police, the carabinieri, tracked the fugitive through an automatic alert from the campsite reception. The arrest occurred Wednesday, just hours before Slovakia's national hockey team defeated Finland 4-1 at Milan's Santagiulia Arena. The man was taken to Milan's San Vittore prison to serve an 11-month, 7-day sentence.
