A dramatic scene unfolded at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium Saturday when a skydiver crashed into the scoreboard before the Hokies' first spring football game under new coach James Franklin. The incident occurred just hours before kickoff, causing the spring game to be delayed for over an hour while rescue teams worked to free the skydiver who had become entangled in the structure.

Video footage captured the skydiver's parachute landing between the "C" and "H" on the Virginia Tech lettering atop the scoreboard. The unidentified skydiver dropped both a large American flag and a smaller parachute into the stands while hanging for approximately 20 minutes before first responders secured him. Virginia Tech officials confirmed the individual was "safely secured and is currently stable."

"Our primary focus remains on their well-being," stated Virginia Tech officials, who expressed gratitude to first responders, event staff, and medical personnel for their swift response. The unusual incident added an unexpected element to what was supposed to be Franklin's first spring game with the team, though the game ultimately proceeded after the rescue operation concluded without further complications.
