PGA Tour Eyes Return of LIV Golf Players After Saudi Funding Uncertainty

PGA Tour chief Brian Rolapp said on Monday that the organization will explore ways to welcome back LIV Golf players who wish to return. The comment came amid rumors that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund may withdraw support for the breakaway league. Rolapp emphasized respect for existing contracts while keeping the Tour’s priorities front‑and‑center today.

Two high‑profile names have already slipped back into the fold. Five‑time major champion Brooks Koepka ended his LIV contract early and re‑enrolled under the returning‑member program, forfeiting any equity shares for five years and the 2026 FedEx Cup bonus. He also pledged a $5 million charitable donation at the Tour’s request in 2026 season for good cause.

Patrick Reed, who left LIV last season, could not secure a new contract and is slated to return on August 25 after a one‑year suspension. The PGA’s returning‑member window closed on February 2, leaving players like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith in limbo if the breakaway league dissolves for future competition and tour opportunities this season.

Rolapp compared LIV to historical rival leagues, noting that competition can expose weaknesses and drive improvement. He warned that the returning‑member program is a one‑time, defined window and not a precedent for future cases. The PGA remains focused on strengthening its product, even as it watches the fate of the Saudi‑funded league in 2026 season.
