Roger Penske's team opened its 60th anniversary with a historic three-peat, winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona for the third consecutive year. The Porsche Penske Motorsports squad joined Chip Ganassi Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing as the only teams to win three straight at the prestigious endurance race. It was Porsche's 21st victory in the event.

Felipe Nasr, the team's closer, is the only driver to be part of all three winning lineups, extending a Brazilian streak of six consecutive years with a Brazilian in the winning car. The victory came after a marathon caution for fog, the longest in race history, which even allowed team owner Roger Penske a rare mid-race break.

Nasr held off a determined challenge from the Action Express Racing Cadillac in the final hour, winning by just over a minute. The winning Porsche 963 was driven by Nasr, Julien Andlauer, and Laurin Heinrich. The race unofficially kicks off the motorsports season, featuring 60 cars and 228 drivers from 32 countries.
