NFL trade grades: Garrett Rams deal

The Browns traded Myles Garrett to the Rams for multiple draft picks and edge rusher Jared Verse, a deal ESPN graded as an A for Cleveland but just a C for Los Angeles. Garrett, coming off a 23-sack season that broke the single-season record, adds championship-caliber pass rush to a Rams team already favored to win the Super Bowl.

Cleveland's haul includes the 2027 first-rounder, 2028 second-rounder, and 2029 third-rounder plus Verse. The 2025 Defensive Rookie of the Year ranked No. 10 among edge rushers in a coaches/scouts survey. The $73.2 million the Rams will pay Garrett over the next two seasons represents a massive financial commitment compared to the $5 million Cleveland will pay Verse over the same span.

While this trade boosts the Rams' immediate championship odds, it creates future concerns. Cleveland acquires cost-controlled assets for their next contending window when they find a quarterback. The Rams' questionable selection of Ty Simpson at No. 13 looks even more questionable after trading away premium draft capital for a short-term rental. The Browns will reap the benefits while Los Angeles pays the price.
