Neff Giwa, a 20-year-old Irishman of Nigerian descent with no prior American football experience, has committed to play offensive lineman for the South Carolina Gamecocks, turning down offers from Miami, North Carolina, SMU, Tennessee, and Texas. The 6-foot-7½, 295-pound prospect, whose full name is Oluwanifemi Giwa, had just begun his U.S. college football journey months ago, touring campuses and meeting coaches. His impressive athletic profile includes a 4.88-second 40-yard dash and a 9-foot-10-inch broad jump, qualities he believes translate well from rugby.

Giwa, who grew up in the small Irish town of Cashel, described his recruitment as an unexpected whirlwind, telling the AP, 'I knew that there'd be a journey there, but I could never have anticipated this.' His decision came after two visits to Columbia and significant time spent with Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer. The commitment represents a significant coup for South Carolina, adding a unique international presence to their offensive line. Giwa, whose family was the first Nigerian family in their Irish town, is motivated by making his family proud, acknowledging the financial opportunities offered by name, image, and likeness deals but emphasizing his focus remains on football.

His choice highlights the Gamecocks' ability to attract elite athletes beyond traditional football backgrounds.
