ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Myron Medcalf have narrowed the field of potential NCAA men's basketball champions to just eight teams, eliminating 357 Division I programs from title contention. The experts' annual tradition categorizes all 365 teams into four groups: ineligible, no clear path, near misses, and the eight legitimate contenders.

Among the ineligible teams are Coppin State, Le Moyne, Mercyhurst, New Haven, and West Georgia, while 334 programs fall into the 'no clear path' category. This group includes traditional powers like Arizona State, Baylor, Clemson, and Georgetown, alongside smaller programs such as Alabama A&M, American University, and Central Connecticut. The 'near misses' category features teams that could make deep runs but lack the championship pedigree.

The eight teams identified as legitimate title contenders will be revealed as the NCAA tournament approaches. These programs have demonstrated the combination of talent, coaching, and experience necessary to win six consecutive games in March. With just 12 days until Selection Sunday, college basketball fans can now focus their championship hopes on this elite group while the remaining 357 teams prepare for next season.
