NCAA Eligibility Rules Challenged in Lawsuit

Eleven Division I athletes, including basketball players Cade Tyson and Brock Wisne, have filed a federal class action lawsuit in Colorado challenging the NCAA's new eligibility rules. The suit alleges the rules adversely affect athletes' ability to extend their college careers and associated NIL benefits.

The NCAA recently introduced a rule granting all athletes five years of eligibility but excluded those who exhausted theirs in the 2025-26 academic year. The lawsuit, if successful, could nullify these rules for a large number of athletes across sports, potentially impacting the upcoming season.

Plaintiffs' legal team argues athletes are not seeking special treatment but want to be included in the new framework. They highlight that the NCAA refused to apply the updated rules to the group most immediately affected. This action follows a recent Ohio ruling granting a preliminary injunction to 24 basketball players, allowing them to continue their careers and enter the transfer portal.
