Michigan guard L.J. Cason will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn right ACL during Friday's win over Illinois, the school announced Saturday. The 6-foot-2 sophomore had emerged as one of college basketball's premier backup guards, averaging 8.4 points and 2.4 assists while shooting better than 40% from three-point range.

Cason's injury occurred in just 13 minutes against Illinois, where he had scored nine points before exiting. The sophomore had found his rhythm recently, scoring in double-figures in four of his last six games, including an 18-point performance in Michigan's comeback win against Northwestern earlier this month. Coach Dusty May praised Cason's resilience and support system.

With Cason sidelined, point guard duties will fall almost solely on Elliot Cadeau, who has made major strides since transferring from North Carolina. Cadeau's minutes had been limited by Cason's consistent play, with the junior guard playing more than 30 minutes just twice since January. Michigan, which clinched the outright Big Ten regular-season title Friday, wraps up the regular season against Iowa and Michigan State next week.
