Kyle Busch, 41, died after bacterial pneumonia progressed to sepsis, causing hemorrhagic shock and disseminated intravascular coagulation, the Mecklenburg County death certificate shows. The cause was listed as natural and he was cremated in Mooresville, N.C. His family confirmed the rapid decline following days‑to‑weeks of respiratory symptoms.

Despite feeling ill, Busch raced at Watkins Glen on May 10, won the Truck Series event at Dover, and finished 17th in the All‑Star race five days before his death. He also opened a go‑kart track with his 11‑year‑old son, Brexton, last week. On May 20 he became unresponsive during a simulator test, called 911, and was hospitalized where he died the next day.

Busch finished his career with a record 234 wins across NASCAR’s top three series and two Cup championships, most with Joe Gibbs Racing before moving to Richard Childress Racing. NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell called him a certain first‑ballot Hall of Famer, noting discussions about posthumous class inclusion even after the selection deadline.
