Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Kevin Johnson died at age 55 from blunt head trauma and stab wounds. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide after he was found unconscious at a homeless encampment.

A fourth-round pick in 1993, Johnson played for New England, Minnesota, Oakland, and Philadelphia. He recorded 43 tackles and seven sacks over two seasons with the Eagles, also returning a fumble for a touchdown before later playing in the Arena Football League.

Investigators believe Johnson, a Los Angeles native, had been living at the encampment. Friends noted he faced significant health issues later in life, which contributed to his situation. The homicide investigation is ongoing, bringing a tragic end to a journeyman NFL career.
