English golfer Joe Dean, 32, won the inaugural Last Chance Qualifier at Royal Birkdale Golf Club on Monday, shooting a 2-under 68 to claim the final spot in the 154th Open Championship's 156-man field. The former grocery delivery driver for Morrison's during the COVID-19 pandemic secured his third Open appearance.

Dean took control with an eagle on the par-5 14th, hitting what he called the best 6-iron of his life from 250 yards to 3 feet. His longtime girlfriend Emily carried his bag; they marry on July 21. South Africa's Aldrich Potgieter finished one stroke back after a bogey on the 18th.

Now a full-time DP World Tour member ranked 264th in the Official World Golf Ranking, Dean hasn't won on tour but tied for ninth at the BMW Championship and third at the KLM Open this year. He previously tied for 70th at Royal Birkdale in 2017 and 25th at Royal Troon in 2024.
