Thousands of boys trek hundreds of kilometres from rural homes to Buenos Aires, hoping a club will sign them. Clubs pay nothing; many house players in internal pensiones run by the team, while countless external boarding houses operate without oversight from the AFA or any government body. ESPN uncovered cases of sexual predation, extortion, hunger and squalid conditions, and often lack medical care.

The investigation prompted no comment from the AFA despite repeated requests, leaving the governing body under fire. With the documentary now streaming, pressure mounts on clubs and regulators to audit pensiones and protect minors. Until reforms materialise, Argentina’s talent pipeline will remain shadowed by abuse.
