Early Top 10 Recruiting Class Rankings: Houston, UConn Lead

We are two weeks away from the start of the college basketball season, and eligibility fights, including five-for-five lawsuits, stricter international requirements and conference crackdowns on former pros playing in college, have left this season's rosters uncertain. Programs have meanwhile turned their attention to the 2027, 2028 and 2029 classes. With the early signing period less than a month away, it is time to release our top 10 recruiting classes and examine some early trends.

Commitments are arriving faster than last year. When we released our initial 2026 class rankings last October, only 14 top-50 prospects and 40 top-100 players were off the board. At the same point in the 2027 cycle, 32 top-50 prospects and 68 top-100 players have committed. Still, the elite players have not moved. None of the top eight prospects in the SC Next 100 have announced a decision, and only seven of the 19 five-star prospects have picked a school.

Mid-majors are also crashing the top 100. With power-conference programs leaning on the transfer portal and experienced rosters, they feel less urgency to sign high school recruits. Utah State, George Mason, Saint Louis, Saint Mary's and Oregon State are among the programs benefiting from top-100 commitments in the 2027 class.

At the top of the list, Houston has four SC Next 100 commitments, including No. 35 Oneal Delancy and No. 90 Triston Hawthorne. Kelvin Sampson's program is quietly on track for its second top-three class in three years. UConn holds the No. 9 and No. 11 prospects in Na Vorro Bowman Jr. and Jordan Page, marking the first time in at least 20 years the program has landed two ESPN five-star prospects in the same class.
