Doug Gottlieb Suspended for Criticizing Officials

Green Bay coach Doug Gottlieb has been suspended for one game by the Horizon League after his heated postgame criticism of officials following a 75-72 loss to Milwaukee. The outspoken coach slammed the table and used an expletive during his news conference, drawing attention on social media.

Gottlieb's outburst came after a controversial finish where Milwaukee's Stevie Elam stole the ball from Preston Ruedinger in the final seconds and made two free throws to seal the win. The coach argued that the same foul should have been called on Ruedinger's drive as was called on Milwaukee's previous possession. Milwaukee shot 30-of-37 from the free-throw line compared to Green Bay's 14-of-18, with 23 fouls called on the Phoenix versus 18 on the Panthers.

In a statement, Gottlieb apologized for his "disparaging comments" and acknowledged the difficulty of officials' jobs. The suspension will take effect when Green Bay visits Oakland on Friday. The Horizon League stated that Gottlieb's comments "do not reflect the League's values or sportsmanship expectations" and considers the matter closed.
