Clark Eyes Rest, Fever Adjust Ball‑Handling Strategy

Caitlin Clark wrapped up a media day at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday, demanding the press gather so she could snap a picture of them. The two‑time WNBA All‑Star used her usual court‑side micromanagement to keep the crowd moving, but she already hinted that she plans to reduce ball handling in 2026 for the upcoming season.

After a 2025 season truncated to 13 games by injury, the Fever are looking to monitor Clark’s usage during training camp. Coach Stephanie White said the team could rely on Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston or rookie Raven Johnson to bring the ball up, giving Clark a needed rest before the regular season starts and soon.

Clark admits that carrying the ball 94 feet to every play is exhausting. She wants a teammate who can initiate offense, allowing her to enter later in transitions where she thrives as the best playmaker. Johnson, who grew up sharing the floor with Clark, says she’s ready to step up for the Fever's offensive scheme.

By trimming her load, Clark hopes to preserve stamina for the long WNBA season while still delivering on her transition game. The Fever’s roster depth now includes Mitchell, Boston and Johnson, giving the coaching staff flexibility to balance attack and defense. The plan is clear: keep Clark fresh and effective as they target a playoff push.
