Butler University has named Ronald Nored as its new head men's basketball coach, promoting the former Bulldogs player to replace Thad Matta. Nored, a 2012 Butler graduate, played under Brad Stevens during the program's back-to-back NCAA championship game appearances in 2010 and 2011.

The 33-year-old Nored brings extensive coaching experience from the NBA and college ranks, most recently serving on the Atlanta Hawks staff. Athletic director Grant Leiendecker praised Nored's "elite basketball IQ" and vision for the program, emphasizing that the hire was based on his coaching credentials rather than his history as a player.

Nored inherits a program that finished 16-16 this season and hasn't reached the NCAA tournament since 2018 under Matta's tenure. The new coach aims to restore Butler's prominence in the Big East Conference, leveraging his deep connection to the program's storied tradition and his experience developing talent at the highest levels of basketball.
