Akron announced Marty Whims II as the winner of its viral 'Offensive Coordinator of the Game' promotion. The Cleveland-based real estate executive will assist head coach Joe Moorhead in scripting plays during the opening offensive series of Akron's Sept. 12 home opener against Robert Morris.

Whims, an Akron alumnus and longtime season-ticket holder, was selected from a random drawing among season-ticket holders. The promotion, launched Aug. 4, generated over 23 million social media views and reportedly produced the largest ticket sales day in Akron athletics history on Aug. 5.

The campaign helped sell out all 17 suites at Info Cision Stadium for the first time since its 2009 opening. Senior deputy athletic director Matt Pottoroff stated that 70% of ticket sales revenue across all sports will support NIL and revenue-share programs.

Notable contestants included ESPN's Pat McAfee and social media personalities Dan 'Big Cat' Katz and James Bordeaux. Whims, chief financial officer of Stark Enterprises, has held Zips season tickets since at least 2009.
