The Golden State Valkyries captured the 2026 WNBA title, marking their second championship and completing the league's 30th season. With a 67.4 points per game average—the lowest scoring average among Finals champions since Sacramento in 2005—the Valkyries built their reputation on defense. Gabby Williams delivered a superstar offensive performance in the playoffs, averaging 21.0 points and earning Finals MVP with 30 points in Game 7.
While the Valkyries rank outside the top 10 all-time, their championship run stands out. The Las Vegas Aces also dominated in 2023, finishing 34-6 and winning the Finals, while the Houston Comets' 2000 title and the Seattle Storm's 2020 championship round out the league's storied history. The Valkyries' success showcased a process centered on defensive commitment, proving that even non-top-10 teams can achieve ultimate victory.
