Draft Night and Season Openers
Roger McQueen continues to draw attention after a draft night trip to Disneyland, where he met Lightning McQueen and kept the "Cars" references rolling. Early-season form is also shaping the conversation, with the Oilers starting fast behind Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard.
Tonight's Slate
With just two contests on the calendar Wednesday, attention centers on Capitals-Canadiens and Stars-Avalanche. Among the wider betting landscape, Sabres vs. Canadiens is one of the marquee matchups being tracked by oddsmakers. Bruins vs. Sharks closes out the 32-team Frozen Frenzy, and late-night picks are already circulating for that finale.
Frozen Frenzy Results
The Tkachuk brothers fed directly into the spirit of the night, combining for nine points as Panthers rolled to a 7-3 win over the Blue Jackets. Teuvo Teravainen and Roman Kantserov each scored twice, and Connor Bedard impressed in his Blackhawks return, recording an assist and saying that playing again is "what I live for."
Injuries and Roster Moves
The Hurricanes suffered a blow in their win over the Capitals, losing veteran forward Taylor Hall, to an upper-body injury after he had posted three goals and five assists. In Minnesota, Nico Sturm, was taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluation after a puck struck his head during the Wild's victory.
On the contract front, Alex DeBrincat and the Red Wings are finalizing a seven-year, $91M extension, according to sources. DeBrincat, Detroit's leading scorer, contributed two goals and an assist in recent play.
