NHL Tonight: What to watch in each of Wednesday's matchups

Wednesdays are typically light nights in the NHL, and that's again the case this week with just three games, but there are captivating reasons to tune in. The Washington Capitals host Sidney Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins in a matchup made more meaningful by Alex Ovechkin's final season. Evgeni Malkin leads the Penguins in scoring, while Washington newcomer Alex Tuch has already netted two goals. Both teams feature exciting rookies in Penguins goalie Sergei Murashov and Capitals defenseman Cole Hutson.

The high-powered Colorado Avalanche face the frisky Winnipeg Jets, who started the season 2-0-1. Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson have combined for a .918 save percentage for Winnipeg, but the Avalanche have scored 14 goals in their first two games, with Nathan Mac Kinnon on pace for 210 points. The Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks cap the night, with the Ducks undefeated after beating the Golden Knights and Panthers. The Oilers scored 14 goals in their first two games before netting three against Seattle. Will the Ducks slow down Connor Mc David, Leon Draisaitl, and Evan Bouchard?
