Apple Hardware & Modification
The iPhone 5, Apple's first Lightning-equipped handset from 2012, has officially been deemed obsolete, moving the device onto the company's discontinued products roster. Concurrently, speculation surrounding future hardware continues, with rumors suggesting the foldable iPhone launching this fall incorporates design elements reminiscent of two highly successful prior products. Meanwhile, enthusiasts are exploring the limits of current hardware, as one creator posted a 1TB SSD upgrade to a new MacBook Neo via an ASMR video, though other analyses caution that while a thermal pad modification can boost sustained clock speeds on the Neo, such tinkering is inadvisable for average users due to potential thermal degradation.
AI Research & Software Updates
Apple researchers unveiled a novel AI model capable of reconstructing three-dimensional objects from just a single input image, maintaining photorealistic consistency in reflections and highlights across various viewing perspectives. This advancement in computational graphics arrives as consumer software continues to evolve, with iOS 26 having introduced a substantially overhauled Phone application featuring several powerful new capabilities that one reviewer found indispensable. These software developments occur as rival messaging platforms introduce cross-platform accessibility features: Meta is testing guest chats on iOS and the web for WhatsApp beta users, allowing participation without requiring a full account login.
Industry Events & Media
The legacy of Cupertino's innovation will be commemorated at the Mimms Museum of Technology and Art, formerly the Computer Museum of America, which is preparing to debut "iNSPIRE: 50 Years of Innovation from Apple" to the public starting April 1st. In related media news, fans of the acclaimed dystopian drama Severance received a production update, as star Adam Scott confirmed filming progress for the third season and teased the introduction of new characters.
