Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason will miss at least four weeks after surgery on a fractured thumb, coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday. It's a second significant injury for the offense one game into the season.

With quarterback Kyler Murray's status in doubt for Sunday at the Chicago Bears due to concussion protocol, the Vikings promoted veteran Dee Jay Dallas from the practice squad and signed Jerome Ford to the practice squad. Rookie Demond Claiborne is on the roster but was inactive in the 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Mason led the team with 15 carries for 59 yards against the Packers. O'Connell said Mason reported soreness Monday and doesn't expect recovery beyond four weeks. Dallas, who played seven snaps in Week 1, will likely back up Aaron Jones Sr. on Sunday.

Murray was a limited participant in practice after a concussion left him motionless. If he can't play, Carson Wentz would start, with J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer as backups.
