The New England Patriots placed veteran guard Greg Van Roten on injured reserve Tuesday, marking the 17th player the team has designated for IR or reached an injury settlement with this season. That already exceeds last year's total of 16 for the entire season.

Van Roten, 36, started Sunday's blowout loss to the Jaguars in place of opening-day starter Mike Onwenu (broken ankle) but was knocked out in the second quarter with a thigh injury. He is one of several key players sidelined, including No. 1 receiver A.J. Brown, No. 2 tight end Julian Hill, top backup safety Dell Pettus, and punter Bryce Baringer.

Quarterback Drake Maye struggled under pressure Sunday, facing a 47% pressure rate—his highest this season and fourth highest of his career. He completed just 41% of passes under pressure this season, with no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Coach Mike Vrabel said backup center Ben Brown would likely take repetitions at right guard. The Patriots (1-2) visit the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills (3-0) on Sunday.
