Texas Tech held off Houston 28-26 on Friday night when Conner Weigman came up short on a 2-point conversion in the final minute. The No. 22 Cougars had a chance to tie after Weigman's third touchdown pass, a 10-yarder to Patrick Overmyer with 49 seconds left. On the try, Weigman lunged for the pylon but his knee touched down before the ball crossed the plane.

Replay officials at the Big 12 headquarters reviewed the play, and viewers got an inside look at the decision. "There's no moral victories," Houston coach Willie Fritz said. "We came here to win. And we didn't win."

J'Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey ran for second-half touchdowns for the No. 13 Red Raiders (3-0, 1-0), who rallied from a 10-0 deficit. Will Hammond was 17-of-27 for 257 yards and a touchdown. Houston led 17-14 at halftime after Koby Young's 46-yard touchdown catch.

Texas Tech won its 10th consecutive home game, its longest streak since 2007-2009. The Red Raiders were playing their first Friday home game since 1941. Hammond started after Tommy Castellanos, who joined the team a week before the season, threw an early interception. "Will Hammond is our starting quarterback," coach Joey Mc Guire said.
