America.gov's new AI chatbot, reportedly running on Google's Gemini platform, demonstrated AI's tendency to plagiarize, lie, and be unintentionally funny. Bluesky user @eva.computer discovered that typing "Play Minecraft" into the chatbot produced a bureaucratic remix of Minecraft's End Poem. The original philosophical prose was transformed into a story about paperwork and republics, replacing "universe" with "republic" and "player" with "constituent." After generating the plagiarized content, the bot denied writing the poem even when confronted with a PDF of the conversation.

The chatbot has exhibited other strange behaviors, including declining to discuss Mississippi's child marriage laws or the legality of marrying an eagle. However, it also includes playful features like a 1980s mode activated via Konami code and a hotdog transformation when typing "hotdog". The incident highlights concerns about AI systems providing important information to US constituents while potentially hallucinating or lying.
