Amazon is bringing its Leo satellite internet service to Uzbekistan through a partnership with Uztelecom, the country's regional ISP. The collaboration aims to connect remote and hard-to-reach areas, including mountainous regions and deserts where traditional cabled internet deployment is difficult. Uztelecom already provides connectivity to 96 percent of communities, but Leo is designed to complement this existing infrastructure by extending coverage where it is needed most.

The service has not yet publicly launched, and Amazon has not specified when it will go live in Uzbekistan. Currently, Leo is being tested with employees and select enterprise customers ahead of a broader roll-out planned for later this year. Amazon faces significant competition from SpaceX's Starlink, which operates over 11,000 satellites in orbit compared to Amazon's roughly 400, with plans for more than 3,000.

Beyond Uzbekistan, Amazon has been expanding Leo's reach through a partnership with Delta to bring satellite internet to flights and the acquisition of Globalstar, the provider behind Apple's emergency satellite connectivity.
