Meta has agreed to give the Prospect union direct access to its 5,000 UK employees for the first time, allowing face‑to‑face and digital outreach about union benefits. The voluntary deal precedes a new statutory right for unions to access workplaces, set to take effect next month. Prospect’s general secretary Mike Clancy says the power will help rebuild union presence in the tech sector, where workers need a strong voice in AI development.

Meta describes the agreement as a straightforward way for staff to learn about union membership, noting its existing work with employee representative groups elsewhere. Meanwhile, other unions like the Communication Workers Union are also seeking recognition in tech, with the CWU contesting a bid for recognition at Google’s Deep Mind unit in London.
