Britain's National Energy System Operator warned of a possible margin shortfall of 1.4 gigawatts starting at 4pm Monday. The notice flags tight electricity supplies before a spike in wind power brings relief overnight. The alert is a routine operational tool to seek additional generation capacity.

NESO posted on social media that there is no risk to customer supplies and the system remains secure. In addition to seeking spare generation, the operator requested additional capacity from neighboring countries. British energy suppliers were also asked if they could reduce demand, regularly calling on customers to cut consumption in exchange for bill compensation.

The notices have become increasingly common since summer heat waves strained the network. The operator flagged the shortfall in a market message, noting the situation may improve as wind generation increases.
