South Africa's telecommunications regulator will investigate the pricing of over-the-top digital services, including Netflix and WhatsApp, according to Business Day. The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa will assess costs to consumers, building on prior reviews of data services. A separate inquiry will examine telecommunications service costs for major firms like MTN Group, Vodacom Group, Telkom SA SOC, and Cell C Holdings.

This follows the communications minister's request for expert advice to lower prices. South African telecom costs remain among the world's highest. The regulator did not comment on the inquiry when contacted.
