CI Global Acquires Invesco’s Canadian Fund Assets

Atlanta‑based Invesco has agreed to sell its Canadian investment fund business to CI Global Asset Management, a firm backed by sovereign wealth fund Mubadala. The transaction covers roughly C$26 billion (about $18.7 billion) of assets under management and marks the latest consolidation move in Canada’s mutual‑fund sector. Industry observers attribute the wave of deals to pressure on fee structures and the need for scale to meet tighter regulatory standards.

Foreign managers, in particular, have been pruning non‑core operations, while domestic players seek larger distribution networks. CI, which already runs a suite of Canadian products, will absorb Invesco’s retail and institutional portfolios, expanding its market share and cross‑selling capabilities. Analysts expect the combined entity to leverage economies of scale, improve cost efficiency, and offer a broader product lineup to Canadian investors.

The deal also signals confidence in the country’s stable financial environment, even as global markets wrestle with volatility. Completion is slated for later this year, after customary regulatory approvals.
