Brian Brobbey hit a hat-trick for Sunderland but could not prevent his side from losing to Manchester City in an eventful Premier League match on Sunday.

Gianluigi Donnarumma struggled with high balls, while Matheus Nunes was caught napping for Sunderland's opener. Ruben Dias had a mixed game, making a goalline clearance but being caught flat-footed for Brobbey's first. Marc Guehi earned an assist but looked uncomfortable overall. Josko Gvardiol failed to close down Enzo le Fee for Sunderland's second goal but provided the cross for Erling Haaland's strike.

Elliot Anderson was jeered by Sunderland fans but completed the most passes. Enzo Fernandez curled in a superb free-kick for City's first goal and became a fans' favourite. Iliman Ndiaye started in place of the suspended Phil Foden and was lively, while Rayan Cherki created City's opener and scored their second. Erling Haaland ended his drought against Sunderland with a late finish.

For Sunderland, Robin Roefs was disappointed for the first goal, and Nordi Mukiele struggled against Antoine Semenyo, who scored twice. Granit Xhaka helped his side get back level twice but ultimately went home with nothing. Brian Brobbey's three close-range finishes earned him the match ball, but the Dutchman will be gutted at leaving with no points.
