The UK has broadened its Global Talent visa program, enabling a curated group of over 100 companies to more readily recruit foreign scientists and engineers. This expansion allows these selected "innovative companies" to sponsor "exceptional researchers" for funded projects in the UK. Previously, only a limited number of contracted firms could offer this pathway.

New additions to the list include burgeoning startups like Riverlane, Nu Quantum (both in quantum tech), and Notpla (developing advanced plastics). Established corporations such as GSK, Arm, Jaguar Land Rover, and IBM are also included. Notably, prominent AI labs like Ineffable Intelligence and Recursive Superintelligence, which rely heavily on top research talent, were absent from this latest cohort.

Professor Christopher Smith from UKRI highlighted that the visa's expansion to innovative businesses nationwide will extend its advantages across various sectors, including medicine, AI, and the creative industries. This follows a previous simplification in April of the visa's academic fast-track route, now encompassing all leadership and development roles at approved UK institutions.
