Physical assets like the European Marine Energy Centre and MOD Hebrides defence range provide unique advantages for local startups.

However, bridging the 'valley of death' remains a challenge. Dr Chelsea Jarvie of Neon Guard highlights improved commercialisation infrastructure but emphasizes the need for matching capital deployment with speed and scale. Early-stage founders often struggle with translating scientific research into commercial ventures, with many confusing product validation with market validation.

The maturation of mentorship programs like Techscaler is helping address these gaps, supporting startups like Touchlab and Neon Guard in their growth journeys.
