Revolut Plans Five UK Credit Cards After Banking Licence Win

Revolut will roll out five credit card products in the UK as the fintech accelerates its lending expansion following receipt of a UK banking licence. UK CEO Francesca Carlesi confirmed the cards would launch soon during Money20/20 in Amsterdam, signaling the company's push beyond payments and subscriptions into higher-margin financial services.

The banking licence enables Revolut to broaden its offering and generate interest income, diversifying revenue streams that have relied heavily on transaction fees. Carlesi argued that legacy banks have under-served important customer segments, creating opportunities for fintech competitors to capture untapped demand in credit products.

Wealth management has emerged as another battleground, with many providers raising minimum thresholds that exclude customers with substantial assets below private banking levels. Revolut, which serves over 75m customers globally, sees this as fertile ground for growth while avoiding direct competition with major investment banks.

This represents Revolut's calculated move to build a full-service banking model in its home market, leveraging its existing customer base to cross-sell credit products and wealth services. The strategy positions Revolut as a challenger bank targeting underserved retail segments rather than competing directly with established financial institutions.
