Mistral Secures Enterprise Backing for Data Centre Buildout

Mistral, a French AI darling, has secured backing from a host of enterprise customers to support its ambitious data centre buildout. ASML, CMA-CGM, Caisse des Dépôts, Capgemini, and Amadeus are part of an anchor group funding the French scale‑up’s plans to build AI infrastructure across Europe.

The company aims to build 1,000 megawatts of compute for AI across Europe by 2030, with its first data centre south of Paris set to deliver 44 megawatts of capacity. Mistral secured an $830 million loan to finance this centre, positioning it as a sizable cloud player comparable to Nebius, which recently contracted 750 MW of compute capacity in EMEA.

Funding comes from multi‑year financial commitments that convert into European Compute Units (ECUs), giving customers access to future compute and related services. This model allows infrastructure to be scaled at a pace no single participant could achieve alone.

Mistral is also opening its platform to third‑party open models, such as GLM‑5.2 from Z.ai, and offers a new feature letting customers choose whether inference runs in the US or Europe to meet data‑residency, regulatory, and latency requirements.
