Middle River Power (MRP), the independent power producer owned by Partners Group, has acquired Panoche Energy Center from an Ares Infrastructure Equity fund.\n\nThe deal is MRP’s third acquisition this year, following its purchases of the 240MW Midway-Sunset facility in Kern County, California, and the 250MW Brush plant in Morgan County, Colorado. Together, the three deals add more than 900MW of capacity to the platform, which Partners Group acquired on behalf of its clients in 2025.\n\nMRP’s strategy centres on buying existing generation assets and adding new technology to them. At Panoche, it intends to pair the plant’s thermal capacity with battery storage, a hybrid model designed to serve rising demand from utilities, data centres, and industrial customers.\n\n“This fully contracted facility adds to our growing footprint across the West,” said Mark Kubow, chief executive of MRP. “We expect to deploy our strategy of hybridizing critical capacity resources so we can continue delivering reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy well into the future.”
