Spain’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is attracting private equity firms, with dealmakers opening offices and appointing staff across Iberia. IK Partners CEO Christopher Masek noted that many of Iberia’s strongest companies are family-owned and approaching succession decisions, creating opportunities for external support to professionalize and scale. Oakley Capital’s Valero Domingo highlighted the inflow of talent and a capital market fueling the Spanish economy, while 59% of total investment volume in H1 came from international funds, according to Spain Cap.

Divestments reached €3.2 billion in H1, up two-thirds year-on-year, despite investments dropping 14% to €3.8 billion. Domestic fundraising hit a record €2.3 billion. Alantra’s Ernesto Plevisani emphasized the need for cultural understanding and personal relationships in mid-market deals, especially with family-owned businesses. Business services and industrials are the hottest sectors, with education assets in high demand due to Spain’s position as a top study destination.

Permira’s sale of Universidad Europea to EQT for over €2 billion illustrates the education sector’s strength. Meanwhile, local entrepreneurs look to expand into the Americas, as seen in Inflexion’s investment in Salto Systems, valued at €1.5 billion, to support its growth in North America.
