AI Fatigue Boosts Live Events & Sports Dealmaking

Providence Equity Partners' Karim Tabet tells PE Hub that AI-driven digital fatigue is increasing demand for live events. The firm, which invests in North American and European businesses under $1.5 billion enterprise value, sees opportunities in communications, live entertainment, and education sectors.

Tabet notes the exit market remains bifurcated—top assets attract multiple bids while others stall. Providence recently sold Hyve to Hellman & Friedman and reinvested in Closer Still Media via Searchlight Capital Partners. The GP's live entertainment portfolio includes Ambassador Theatre Group and Superstruct Entertainment. "The paradox of digitalization is that it makes physical scarcity even more important and more valuable," said Karim Tabet.

Sports dealmaking is also in focus. Houlihan Lokey values the Indian Premier League at $20.6 billion, citing predictable cash flows, salary cap discipline, and capital-light model. CVC built the Gujarat Titans franchise and sold a majority stake to Torrent Group in 2025. Per-match revenue now trails only the NFL.
