Global space tech startup funding reached a record $20.3 billion in 2026 through August, surpassing all prior annual totals with four months remaining. The U.S. captured $12.7 billion (over 60%), China attracted just over 20%, and Europe secured about 10%. Space Capital notes the space economy has entered a new era with capital flowing at unprecedented scale.

Top fundraisers include Anduril Industries, which raised $5 billion in a May Series H, Shanghai-based Yuanxin Satellite (Space Sail) with a $1 billion August round for a Starlink-rival constellation, and Torrance-based K2 Space securing $500 million in July Series D funding for large satellites.

Exits are also significant. SpaceX's June IPO set a nearly $1.8 trillion valuation, raising over $80 billion. York Space Systems went public in January at over $4 billion but shares fell sharply. HawkEye 360 debuted in May with shares also down. M&A activity includes York acquiring All.Space for $355 million, plus Orbion Space Technology and Solestial. Voyager Technologies acquired Astrobotic Technology for $300 million in June.

The sector remains risk-prone despite high valuations.
