Legal tech startups have raised over $2.2 billion in 2026, following a record $4.6 billion in 2025, bringing total venture investment to more than $7 billion in two years. Harvey, the San Francisco-based AI legal tools provider, leads with $1.2 billion raised and is reportedly seeking another $500 million at a $15.5 billion valuation. Legora, based in Stockholm, secured $600 million in Series D funding at a $5.5 billion valuation, tripling in six months. Clio, the Vancouver practice management veteran, closed $1.4 billion in equity financing across 2024-2025. At least 12 startups have raised $50 million+ rounds in 2026, with eight being Series A or B deals. Seed activity remains robust with over 50 rounds of $1 million+.

M&A is accelerating: Legora acquired five companies and Harvey three in 2026. Wolters Kluwer bought Brightflag for $500 million and Libra for $105 million. No IPOs yet, but Harvey reported over $100 million in Q1 ARR growth. A Thomson Reuters survey shows 80% of legal professionals expect AI to have high or transformational impact within five years, with over half already seeing ROI.

Top use cases: document review, research, summarization, and drafting. AI may disrupt hourly billing but is expected to augment, not replace, legal professionals.
