General Catalyst Leads $5M+ Fintech Deals in Q2

General Catalyst overtook Y Combinator in Q2 for most fintech deals of $5M+, participating in 12 such rounds versus YC's 11, per Crunchbase data. This marked General Catalyst's busiest fintech investing quarter since 2021 for deals of that size. YC remained the most active investor overall with 41 total fintech deals, followed by General Catalyst with 13.

Global fintech startups raised $28.6 billion in H1 2026, up 22.7% YoY but down 17.3% from H2 2025's $34.6 billion peak. For megarounds ($100M+), private equity firms led: Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Iconiq Capital, GIC, Centerbridge Partners, and Prosus topped lead investors. The largest rounds went to Ramp ($750M Series F at $50B+ valuation), Ebury ($748M), KreditBee ($220M), and Alan ($545M).

At seed stage, YC dominated with 33 deals, followed by Rebel Fund (7) and Antler (6). For post-seed lead investments, General Catalyst led with five deals, while TCV, SMBC Asia Rising Fund, Portage Ventures, Index Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Accel each led three.
